From a Philadelphia native named Drewboy came an almost instantaneous rise to notice, when a freestyle he shared online suddenly amassed more than a million views by the following morning. That momentum led straight into a recording contract with a subsidiary of Island Records, where his smooth and effortless delivery paired with upbeat beats found a home on the mixtape Personality, issued in 2020.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Drewboy had already begun rapping during his elementary years. In those early days, improvisation formed the core of his practice, often serving to amuse companions or fill idle moments. Once he started uploading clips of his freestyles to social platforms, the expanding audience made a professional path in music feel like the logical next step.
He adapted one such online freestyle into his debut single, titled "Close Friends," whose reach benefited directly from his existing online supporters.
