Biography
The metal band Drill 187 originated in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, when singer/guitarist Jason Lilley, bassist Todd Yanez and drummer Ken Bass came together after Stormchylde dissolved in 1995. Guitarists Jason Ussery and Kirk Matthews soon joined, allowing the group to cultivate a loyal regional audience before tracking its first release, the EP Modified, during the middle of 1997. Ken Bass exited at the beginning of the next year, and Greg Evans stepped in on drums. Additional lineup changes reduced the roster to Lilley and Ussery alone by late 1998; the arrival of bassist C.J. Boyle and drummer Bobby Stansbury then enabled Drill 187 to complete a self-titled album that appeared the following year.
