Biography
Drive She Said emerged in 1986 as an American melodic hard rock outfit anchored by keyboardist Mark Mangold, previously a member of American Tears and Touch as well as a player for Michael Bolton, alongside vocalist and guitarist Al Fritsch. The group focused on soaring AOR rock distinguished by expansive harmonies and massive hooks. After securing a CBS Records contract, they issued their self-titled debut album in 1989, which included guest contributions from Aldo Nova and Bob Kulick of Meat Loaf. Although the record made little headway with domestic listeners amid the rising alt-rock and grunge wave, it earned both sales and acclaim abroad, prompting a European reissue on the Music for Nations imprint. The band subsequently delivered two further releases on that label, Drivin' Wheel and Excelerator, before shifting to Frontiers Records. Their initial Frontiers effort, Real Life, arrived in 2003, with Pedal to the Metal following in 2016.
