Drowsy

Mauri Haikenen, a Finnish artist working at the intersection of folk and electronics, records under the fitting name Drowsy. His songwriting draws from the traditions of Robert Wyatt, Syd Barrett, and Bill Callahan of Smog, prompting him to weave understated electronic details through relaxed, mostly acoustic arrangements. In 2001 he forwarded a CD-R of his material to the U.K. indie label Fat Cat, an imprint known for its broad roster, which issued Drowsy’s first 7-inch, Careless Me, late that same year. Drowsy next surfaced on Fat Cat’s 2003 compilation Branches and Routes, while his first album, Growing Green, appeared in spring 2005.
