After the early-1970s Canadian pop/rock outfit the Wackers disbanded, bassist Bill Trochim and guitarist Bob Segarini, two of its alumni, assembled the Dudes as their new venture. They expanded the roster with drummers Ritchie Henman and Wayne Cullen plus guitarists David Henman and Brian Greenway, and every member shared vocal duties.

The group cut its debut album, We're No Angels, for CBS in 1975, which produced the hit single "I Just Wanna Dance." Before sessions for a second album could begin, most of the musicians departed for other projects. Segarini alone continued long enough to finish the EP Starlight, the final release.

More than twenty years after the Dudes dissolved, Pacemaker Records gathered the band's recordings for the compilation All the Young Dudes, All the Old Demos.
