Among the leading exponents of singeli’s hyperkinetic sound stands Tanzanian producer Duke. His first album, Uingizaji Hewa, arrived in 2019 and centers on breakneck rhythmic loops that routinely exceed 200 beats per minute, laced with cartoonish samples and rapid, dancehall-tinged vocals.

Although the Sisso collective—home to Jay Mitta and Bamba Pana—anchors much of the singeli community, Duke works out of the Pamoja Records studio. His beats rank among the genre’s quickest and most unrestrained, yet he has also crafted cuts in its slower, hip-hop-leaning variant that gained broad traction in the late 2010s. Issued by Uganda’s Nyege Nyege Tapes, itself a hub for notable singeli recordings, Uingizaji Hewa includes appearances from MCZO, Don Tach, and Dogo Lizzi alongside several high-intensity instrumentals.
