Dumptruck began chiefly as a duo of Massachusetts natives Kirk Swan and Seth Tiven, supported by a shifting rhythm section, and briefly stood among the leading acts on U.S. college radio in the mid '80s. The group fused the jangly power pop style associated with the Southern alternative scene and incisive lyrics carrying a melancholic edge. After Swan departed late in 1986, Tiven continued alone to complete one further album, For the Country, before the band ended in 1988. Legal disputes with their label were resolved in 1995, prompting a reunion that included a modest club tour of the U.S. and a fresh recording contract. Days of Fear appeared later that year; Terminal arrived five years afterward, while Lemmings Travel to the Sea surfaced in early 2001.
