Biography
Dylan Earl, based in Arkansas, fuses classic old-time country with somber crooner ballads while folding in a measure of late-1970s country rock. His first album, New Country to Be, appeared in 2017 and was followed by Squirrel in the Garden in 2019 and I Saw the Arkansas in 2023.
Originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, Earl began composing and performing his own style of country during his years at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. With his close friend Zac Hale he launched the alternative country-rock band Swampbird in 2010, playing locally at first before extending their shows across the United States and issuing On Being Alone in 2013 and Something to See in 2015. After the second of those releases Earl chose to work alone, concentrating on his own songs and recordings. The resulting New Country to Be, issued in 2017, presented classic country styled after the 1970s and 1980s, moving from mournful ballads to upbeat honky-tonk numbers. U.S. and U.K. tours soon followed, leading to the 2019 release of his second album, Squirrel in the Garden. In 2021 he joined Dutch alt-country artist Judy Blank on the single “Never Said a Word,” then devoted 2022 to tracking his third album. Early the next year, after signing with Gar Hole Records, he delivered I Saw the Arkansas and set out on a supporting tour through the U.S., U.K., and Europe.
