Dylan Shearer, a dreamy and melancholic singer/songwriter, crafts slightly psychedelic material whose inward chamber-pop leanings echo the introspective styles of 1960s pop-psych eccentrics such as Kevin Ayers, Syd Barrett, Van Dyke Parks, and kindred beautiful weirdos. He started making music and capturing songs in early childhood, occasionally sitting in with his father’s blues ensemble before shifting toward louder rock and experimental approaches during his teenage years and early twenties. After an extended stretch devoted to heavily experimental sounds, Shearer rekindled his affinity for pop songwriting and completed Carousel Doors. The project was succeeded by Planted/Plans in 2009, pressed in an extremely limited vinyl edition of only 100 copies. That album spread digitally, drawing favorable notices across numerous blogs and publications, after which Shearer issued Porchpuddles in 2012 and, two years later, Garagearray, issued through Bay Area garage-rock legend John Dwyer’s Castle Face imprint.
