Biography
Within the Carnatic tradition, gifted youngsters have long absorbed the structures and idioms of music much as infants acquire speech. E. Gayathri came into the world near 1959 in Madras; her father, Aswathama, served as a Telugu film music director, ensuring that music ran naturally through her lineage. She approached the concert platform with evident relish from the start. By 1971 her reputation was firmly established, leading All India Radio to confer A-grade artist status without any audition. Her output has been captured in abundance, above all on cassette, yet no individual CD stands out.
