Leeds outfit Eagulls began in 2010 when guitarist Mark Goldsworthy and drummer Henry Ruddel assembled the group as a swaggering, punk-inspired act. Bassist Tom Kelly and second guitarist Liam Matthews joined soon after, completing the core lineup before George Mitchell supplied its distinctive voice. The band quickly gained traction in the local scene through an unapologetic, chaotic strain of guitar music that drew both praise and a growing audience. Their debut 7" single, "Council Flat Blues," appeared on Not Even Records in early 2011. Momentum carried into 2012 with support dates alongside Fucked Up, Iceage, and Hot Snakes, after which the group signed to Partisan Records. A European tour followed in 2013, along with appearances at SXSW in Texas and New York's CMJ festival. Working with producer Matt Leeds, the band delivered its self-titled album in March 2014. Shifting emphasis toward melody for the follow-up, Eagulls drew from the Cocteau Twins and the Cure while tracking Ullages inside a converted church; the album surfaced in May 2016.
