Biography
Electronica musician Earl Zinger turns out to be Rob Gallagher, the former frontman of Galliano, the acid jazz outfit signed to the Talkin' Loud imprint. His résumé appears polished and substantial on the surface, yet nearly every detail proves invented. The document fabricates close ties to Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, and assorted cultural figures, while also claiming that Bob Marley and Bob Dylan drew inspiration from his work. Released on K/7 in 2002, the album Put Your Phazers on Stun and Throw Your Health Food Skyward served as the first release credited to this fabricated persona. Behind the Zinger character, Gallagher reveals a playful streak that surfaces both in the songs themselves and in the peculiar interview arrangements, whereby he declines direct comment and instead routes all responses through an intermediary said to be acquainted with him.
