Biography
A seasoned scorer of television and film projects who also performs as a country singer and songwriter, Eban Schletter created his debut cinematic soundtrack during childhood. He first arranged music for a string of self-produced short films before shifting focus to percussion and joining punk outfits throughout the San Francisco region. In 1989 he became a member of Stone Fox, adopting the alias “Debbie” along with feminine clothing to maintain the group’s “all girl” appearance. After departing the band in 1991 to pursue a law degree at the University of San Francisco, he soon found legal employment scarce in Southern California and therefore returned his attention to music. A composing position for the HBO program Mr. Show with Bob and David followed, bringing an Emmy nomination and prompting him to abandon the legal path entirely. From that point he devoted himself wholly to scoring, supplying original material for both feature films and television series such as Spongebob Squarepants. Session work likewise kept him active; in 1996 he contributed to Tool’s Ænima while simultaneously initiating a solo career. Although much of his independent output leans heavily on country idioms, he has ventured into additional genres, most prominently on the album Eban Schletter’s Witching Hour.
