Biography
Ebbb, a British trio, portray their approach as an intersection of Brian Wilson’s sensibilities and the raw edge of Death Grips. Onstage they fuse dense synthesizer layers with magnetic grooves supplied by both electronic programming and live drumming, all wrapped in stacked, magnetic vocal lines. After building momentum inside London’s underground club circuit, the group issued their first EP, All at Once, in 2024, marking them as an essential act unburdened by standard band trappings.
The project was conceived by producer and instrumentalist Lev Ceylan, born in Germany, who left a stable position as a technician at Munich’s Philharmonic Hall for an uncertain relocation to South London. While studying at Goldsmiths University he connected with Scott McDonald, a punk drummer originally from Glasgow; the pair began working together in 2019, Ceylan concentrating on guitar. Vocalist Will Rowland completed the lineup, his formally trained tenor—ethereal yet powerfully resonant—giving the music added distinction.
The three quickly stockpiled original songs and performed them in the same rooms that had introduced indie outfits such as black midi and Squid. Their material is defined by surging electronic chords and eccentric percussion that shifts between analog and digital palettes. Sets that ranged from modest headline dates to opening slots for the Smile, Mary in the Junkyard, and Scaler earned strong notices, leading the trio to sign with Ninja Tune in 2024, a fitting home for their sound. All at Once, highlighted by the tracks “Himmel” and “Swarm,” served as their first recorded statement of intent.
