Echo Orbiter came together in Philadelphia during 1996 after brothers Justin Emerle and Colin Emerle brought Jeremiah Steffen into the fold to help develop material they had already written. The group then began playing local shows while refining its distinctive approach. In 1999 the band issued a collection of its best early recordings under the title A Moment in Lift That's Right. The following year Laughing All the While appeared on Looking Glass Workshop; producer Brian McTear captured the sessions at Miner Street Recordings in Philadelphia. Justin Emerle both owned and ran the Looking Glass Workshop imprint, which also served as the name for a Philadelphia artists’ collective. Early in 2002 the band delivered its third album, Quest'-ce Pour Nous. Exposure increased through contributions to compilations issued by Happy Happy Birthday To Me, Planting Seeds, Bumblebear, Tremolo Feedback, Looking Glass Workshop, and additional labels. The members continue to mark their shared passion for music with formal observances while staying engaged in Philadelphia’s local scene, where their energetic blend of modern, playful, and chaotic pop still draws attention.
