Echolust is a California trio whose sound fuses drum machine rhythms with a dark, brooding strain of post-punk colored by shoegaze and synth pop. The group formed in 2011, issued several independent singles, and later signed to Cleopatra Records, which released their first album, Veldisa, in 2016; the follow-up, Loomer, arrived in 2018.

Singer and multi-instrumentalist Philip Obando launched the project in Long Beach that same year. He had already written material and tracked demos but found it difficult to assemble compatible musicians. A meeting with bassist Armond Angeles at an Echo & the Bunnymen concert led the pair to begin developing songs together. Their 2015 EP Fourier Series presented dark synth pop and EBM pieces in the vein of Depeche Mode and New Order. Seeking greater noise and distorted guitar textures, they enlisted Tony Lee Jackson, who completed the trio and substantially reshaped its direction. Cleopatra Records issued the debut album Veldisa in 2016. The record drew significant notice from shoegaze and darkwave listeners and secured the band a spot on the 2017 My Bloody Valentine tribute compilation assembled by The Blog That Celebrates Itself. Their second album, Loomer, followed in 2018.
