Ed Bennett came into the world in 1951 and first took up the string bass at the age of twelve. Lessons with Nat Gangursky followed, and while still in his teens he joined a Dixieland ensemble. After enrolling at Berklee College of Music in Boston, he completed his studies and launched a tour with Jimmy Witherspoon in 1974. Throughout the 1970s he also appeared on recordings by Carmen McRae, the Toshiko Akiyoshi-Lew Tabackin Big Band, Keith Barry, and Kelly Broadway. Vision issued his debut leader date, The Ed Bennett Trio, while two later projects, Blues for Hamp and In Season, both came out on the Saphu imprint.
