Biography
Born in the United States as Eduard Scott Hamilton, the guitarist forged his distinctive approach from a broad array of sources such as Charlie Christian alongside rock, Latin, and funk currents. Although he cultivated an audience throughout the early 90s, labels remained reluctant to support his vision. Speaking with jazz writer Deni Kasrel, he observed, ‘Since I didn’t fit into any category, they didn’t think they could sell it...’ His persistence eventually paid off when, in 1996, he finally produced the album he had long envisioned, performing on guitar, bass, and synthesizers while enlisting Lenny White and George Howard as guests. That same breadth of influences, which had earlier baffled executives, continues to resist easy categorization of his playing. Because every track on the debut was composed by Hamilton himself, the recording offers the clearest window into his musical identity. Subsequent releases have come out on the Telarc, Shanachie, and Fahrenheit imprints.
