Biography
Ed Laurie, a British singer and songwriter whose journeys have taken him across many countries, launched his professional path through acting in his native London. Success on stage built the self-assurance that eventually steered him back to his earliest passion, music. Relatives scattered through Eastern Europe, Germany, Spain, and Brazil contributed to the borderless character of his music. Drawing from sources that stretch from established songwriters such as Leonard Cohen and Fred Neil to the renowned African vocalist Césaria Évora and flamenco guitarist Paco Peña, he produces reflective, spacious, and gently wistful pieces that recall the atmospheres of Syd Barrett and Jacques Brel. The independently issued, seven-track EP Meanwhile in the Park gained listeners both near and far via online platforms, earning him a contract with the Los Angeles-based Dangerbird label. His first full-length release on that imprint, Small Boat Big Sea, was prepared for a 2009 launch.
