From an early age, music held a strong fascination for the skilled Latin jazz artist Eddy Martínez. His time as a student at Colombia's National University marked the beginning of his engagement with jazz, despite the fact that singer Yolima Pérez delivered his initial composition, a cha-cha. Once he had established residence in New York, Martínez launched a notable path in music both as a performer and a producer; this included collaborations in recording and performance with Ray Barreto, Eddie Palmieri, Larry Harlow, and Tito Puente, contribution to the soundtrack for Last Tango in Paris, the establishment of Conjunto Libre, and journeys across America and Europe alongside Irazú and Conexión Latina, while also serving as an inspiration to figures like Jerry González and Paquito de Rivera. Three Grammy Awards came to Eddy Martínez, along with a 1992 nomination for the Diners Talent Awards.
