Edgar Ferreira’s output, centered chiefly on the rojão style, began appearing on discs by leading performers from the 1950s onward, among them Carlos Galhardo, Joel de Almeida, Luiz Wanderley, and Jackson do Pandeiro, and continued to find interpreters well into the 2000s, including Cascabulho, Zé Ramalho, Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, Beth Carvalho, Os Paralamas do Sucesso, Martinho da Vila, and Genival Lacerda. After settling in Rio during 1942 he enjoyed renewed attention when, beginning in the following decade, Jackson do Pandeiro cut several of his pieces that achieved wide popularity, among them “Um a Um,” “17 na Corrente,” and “Forró em Limoeiro.” In addition to his work for the screen, Ferreira received recognition for the score he supplied to the stage production of Oswald de Andrade’s O Rei da Vela and to the film of the same name directed by José Celso Martinez Corrêa.
