Edison

Forming in 1992 as an alternative rock quartet in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Edison consisted of vocalist and guitarist Ryan Tyler, guitarist Shawn Shultz, bassist Chris McConnell, and drummer T.J. Lipple. The musicians refined their muscular style through repeated appearances on the Altoona club circuit, then advanced to stages in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and finally New York, where a set at CBGB's attracted the notice of Kinetic Records founder Steve Lau and resulted in a prompt signing to the imprint. The band first tracked two singles in the fall of 1996 with producer Wharton Tiers before enlisting Jawbox's J. Robbins to produce the 1997 full-length debut Picture Postcard.
