Edith Crash, a singer, songwriter, and one-woman band born in France and now based in Los Angeles, fuses fervent contemporary chanson with folk blues and dark post-punk textures. Born in Perpignan in 1983, she picked up the guitar and began composing during her early teenage years. When her family relocated to Barcelona at age sixteen, she absorbed the troubadour and flamenco traditions of the region, which shaped her accomplished guitar technique.

While still in Spain she issued her first EP, Des Mots, and performed regularly on Barcelona’s club circuit. A 2011 grant from Cases de la Música, Sala la Salamandra financed the sessions for her debut album, De L’Autre Côté, also recorded that year; an additional Injuve Creación Joven grant from Spain’s Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality supported an extensive tour. She appeared at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound and Let’s Festivals and presented a solo headline concert in Argentina. Returning to France in 2012, she collaborated with saxophonist Alex Augé on the EP Inonde, released by Vagueness Records, and composed the score for Florencia P. Marano’s short film Aguas Santas, which screened at the Short Film Corner of the Cannes International Film Festival. In December she moved to Los Angeles, promptly joining the local club scene; her music was featured in Jane Clark’s independent film Crazy Bitches, in which she also performed onscreen, delivering a cover of “Crimson and Clover.” Her song “Casser,” remixed by Sokio, appeared in Eli Roth’s horror film Knock Knock.

Crash issued her second full-length album, Partir, in 2015; the record, written in memory of her late mother and produced by Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age, Chris Cornell), finds her performing every instrument herself. She toured North America in support of the album and performed at the 2016 SXSW Music Festival, where NPR’s All Songs Considered named her set one of its “Favorite Discoveries and Memorable Moments of SXSW 2016.”
