Biography
Effi Briest came together in New York City during 2006, channeling a raw punk essence that blended Patti Smith's poetic howl with Siouxsie and the Banshees' tribal dance rock and the gothic psychedelics of Helium. Corinne Brown, hailing from Brooklyn, reached out to friends sharing her musical vision, quickly assembling an expansive group of twelve members. The band's moniker drew from Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 1974 cinematic adaptation of an 1897 German literary classic. By 2008, Effi Briest had streamlined into a six-piece ensemble, gaining attention through support slots alongside White Rabbits and Abe Vigoda. Further exposure came via a 2009 split 7" alongside Telepathe, complemented by straightforward but inventive videos on YouTube that helped propagate their reputation.
