Biography
In the early 1990s, Eggs stood among Washington, D.C.'s premier indie-pop acts, yet frequently remained overshadowed by labelmates Unrest, another standout group from the same locale and era. Fronted by Andrew Beaujon, who had previously played in Scaley Andrew, the band established a distinct presence amid numerous sweet-toned guitar-pop ensembles inspired by Unrest's example. Their debut release, Bruiser, delved into the easy-listening, cocktail-lounge aspects of guitar-pop, a stylistic corner that Mark Robinson of Unrest would subsequently explore through Grenadine, a side collaboration featuring Tsunami's Jenny Toomey. With Teenbeat Exploder 96, Eggs pursued greater musical ambition by issuing the label's initial double album, blending straightforward lounge pop with experimental pieces incorporating found sounds. The group disbanded in 1995, after which its members each pursued separate musical paths.
