Ehab Tawfik has sustained an active performance career throughout his native country for more than twenty-five years while drawing inspiration from the al-jil Egyptian pop music of Hamid el-Shaeri. Peak visibility arrived for him on February 26, 2001, when he appeared before 50,000 listeners at a Baghdad benefit concert organized to raise funds for Iraqis who were maimed during the Gulf War.
