Biography
Jesus "El Flaco" Elizalde entered the world on January 14, 1977, in Navojoa, Sonora. As the sons of Lalo "El Gallo" Elizalde, the revered figure in regional Mexican music, both Jesus and his brother Valentin grew up immersed in its longstanding customs while also revealing an early aptitude and passion for the art form. His first public performance came in 2001, when he appeared alongside Los Tigres del Norte at El Teatro del Pueblo in Obregon, Sonora. Although the occasion proved nerve-racking, El Flaco delivered one of the energetic and memorable sets that would define his stage presence. Shortly afterward he secured a contract with the influential Disa label, headquartered in Monterrey, which issued his first album, Perdonam. The project’s reception opened doors to appearances at plazas and festivals throughout Mexico and Baja California. Audiences responded positively to his work, yet it remained overshadowed by his brother Valentin "El Gallo de Oro" Elizalde, already one of norteño’s most prominent voices. The follow-up effort, Dispuesto a Cambiar, produced radio successes such as “Que Lavante la Mano” and “El Espejo.” In 2005 Jesus issued his third album, Las Mas Perdidas de Ramon Ayala, only to lose Valentin to murder a short time later. Late the following year, Valentin—who had openly addressed drug trafficking in his well-known narcocorridos—was killed in Reynosa immediately after a concert. The loss positioned Jesus as the sole surviving recording artist in the Elizalde family and thrust him into intense media scrutiny. While directing projects to honor his late father and brother through new recordings and a planned museum, he entered an agreement with Fonovisa for his subsequent release. Corazon de Acero appeared in 2007 and featured his first Billboard-charting single, “Culpable o No.”
