Manuel Jesús Rodríguez Rodríguez entered the world in Malaga, Spain. At seventeen he purchased his initial bass guitar and enlisted in the regional punk outfit Santos Putos de Punk Rural. Over time his preferences shifted, prompting him to explore rhumba and rock Andaluz alongside the ensemble Arte y Duende. Early recognition arrived through his role in the pop/rock collective Minima Expresión, which captured the Muestra de Musica Joven de Malaga Award in 1989. Subsequent years saw him team with various local rock acts, yet none yielded a sustained match. January 2001 marked the launch of a fresh endeavor, El Koala, assembled with new musicians and an altered working approach. In September 2003 the unit captured a six-track demo, Rock Rustico, which earned praise from reviewers and listeners alike and secured top honors at the Alhama de Granada Festival. Mounting interest around El Koala generated proposals for a full-length debut, leading the act to join Fods Records for the 2006 issuance of Rock Rustico de Lomo Ancho. The album climbed domestic rankings and ultimately registered on Billboard’s European Top 100. Rodríguez and El Koala have since sustained an active performance itinerary across Spain.
