Biography
David Otero Martin, who performs as El Pescao and follows his cousin Dani into solo work, became the next member of the Spanish power pop band El Canto del Loco to launch an individual project once the group entered its self-imposed 2009 hiatus. Born in Madrid during 1980, he had trained in law and aeronautical management before stepping in for founding guitarist Iván Ganchegui during the band’s formative period. That hugely successful act collected four number-one albums and eleven chart-topping singles across the noughties, including the Martin-penned single “Despiertame.” Capitalizing on the group’s end-of-decade pause, he issued his first solo record, Nada Lógico, in 2010 under the El Pescao moniker borrowed from one of the band’s tracks. He wrote, performed, and produced nearly every song himself, incorporating several numbers previously set aside from El Canto del Loco sessions; the resulting set explored a more experimental direction that touched on electronica, indie pop, and folk while featuring guest work from producer Carlos Jean, DJ Wally Lopez, and Brazilian vocalist Ana Cañas.
