Biography
Argentina’s Latin pop outfit El Simbolo originated when Francisco Fernández Madero, known professionally as Frank Madero, and Ramón Garriga first encountered each other as students at San Gabriel high school. United by a shared enthusiasm for music, the pair launched the project TNN (The New Nation) in 1993 and issued the infectious single “La Cucamarcha,” a track built on the Latin standard “La Cucaracha.” The following year guitarist José Javier Puerta, billed as Tote Puerta, and vocalist Soledad López came aboard; under the new name El Simbolo the quartet recorded its self-titled debut album. After Lorena Taibo replaced the previous lead singer and the group established its own imprint, Magma Records, the album Madagascar appeared in 1995. One year later El Simbolo moved to Fonovisa, which released No Pares in 1997 and Hit Mix in 1998.
