Biography
Barkin pursued studies at Queens College in New York, at Brandeis, and in Berlin under Blacher. Faculty appointments followed at Queens, the University of Michigan, and UCLA. Serial techniques shape her output, much of it scored for chamber ensembles and mixed-media forces. Her publications address various aspects of twentieth-century music.
