Elba

Hailing from Seattle, the indie rock quartet Elba draws its name from the island that once exiled Napoleon. Featuring Brian Graham, Shea Teeley, Nick Cappelletti, and Matt Hargraves, the group paints the character of both locations through lonely, spacious indie rock. Layers of reverb shape a sound reminiscent of the Pacific Northwest’s cloudy skies, which the band then merges with moody, minor-key melodies to yield a plaintive, isolated feel. Their first release, An Avalanche, arrived in 2008, followed the next year by Don’t Be Discouraged, Little Sparrow. After a stretch of relative quiet, the band resurfaced with force via the 2011 Diplodocus EP and then partnered with influential producer and songwriter Graig Markel to record their third full-length, the self-titled Elba.
