Biography
As a musicologist, Dr. Elia Andrea Corazza has examined multiple periods and genres, among them twentieth-century neo-Classical and serial repertory, opera from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, ballet scores, and the intersections of music with Fascism. His investigations have brought him to various American institutions, most notably the Library of Congress, where he prepared a fresh edition of Ottorino Respighi’s orchestration of Giovanni Paisiello’s La Serva Padrona. Respighi created that version for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in 1920; Corazza led its revival in 2014 in Respighi’s native Bologna.
He also earned diplomas in piano performance, composition, and conducting through studies undertaken in Fiesole and Pescara, Italy, as well as at Tanglewood, Massachusetts. His pianistic activity concentrates on Italian opera and twentieth-century chamber works, and he has directed a number of Italian orchestras. Under the pseudonym Elijax, Corazza has composed for documentaries, short films, and commercials while also producing electronic dance music; in 2017 he issued a sequence of singles spotlighting violinist Emy Bernecoli, with a complete album planned to follow. He currently serves on the faculty of the Conservatory “Fausto Torrefrance” in Vibo Valentia, Italy.
