Renowned across Brazil for her command of jazz vocals, flute, and piano, Eliane Salek earned prizes in both domestic competitions such as Jovens Concertistas and Funarte and in foreign events including the International Festival of Female Composers at UFRJ. In her flute performances she appeared with the Orquestra Sinfônica da UFRJ, the Orquestra Sinfônica do Espírito Santo, and the Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional da Rádio MEC while also playing in Severino Araújo's Orquestra Tabajara and Marcos Szpillman's Rio Jazz Orchestra. Vocal instruction came from Lídia Podorowsky and Eládio González, and she attended master classes led by Anne-Marie Helot and François Loup; in 1998 she earned a place in the choir of the Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. Three solo albums have appeared under her name, one of them issued in the United States alongside Hélcio Milito's ensemble. On piano and flute she has collaborated with Elba Ramalho, Toquinho, Zeca Pagodinho, Sivuca, and additional artists. For TV Globo she composed and arranged soundtracks for the telenovelas and series Louco Amor, A Sucessora, and Top Model, productions that later reached European audiences. A dedicated scholar of Brazilian repertoire, she completed a B.A. in flute at UFRJ and a master's degree in the same instrument at UNI-RIO, having studied under Esther Scliar, Guerra Peixe, Norton Morozowikz, and Celso Woltzenlogel.
