Having spent her early years in and around New York City, Elisa Peimer channels elements of that urban energy into her songs and into her own tenacious outlook on both life and her path as a performer. A skilled vocalist, composer, and instrumentalist, she developed a devoted audience gradually through successive appearances at clubs and festivals. Her initial EP, titled EP and containing four tracks including "Leave the Light On," "Lullaby," and "Leaving Here Tomorrow," broadened her reach further.

The recording drew notice from influential figures in the music industry, resulting in placements on a Beavis & Butthead DVD and on the soap operas Another World, As the World Turns, and Guiding Light. Conversations with producers also explored opportunities for additional material on prime-time series such as Dawson's Creek and Party of Five. In 1999 Peimer earned the ASCAP Popular Award. The following year brought the release of her first full-length album, Shed the Skin, whose pop melodies incorporate rock edges along with a trace of country and include the songs "Last Train to Baltimore," "A Little Too Soon," "Lose My Way," and "Cellar Door."
