In jazz, the addition or omission of a single letter "e" can create considerable confusion. Stripping that letter from Elliot Levine yields Elliot Levin, the free jazz tenor saxophone and poet from hell with whom the keyboardist is often mistaken. Even restored to its proper spelling, this Baltimore/Washington-area composer and player still receives inquiries seeking a Hebrew cantor. Levine routinely refers those calls to their intended recipient, the New York cantor, choir director and composer Ellliot Levine, before returning to his own work of getting funky. His résumé features extensive experience in that vein, most prominently a notable period supporting soul giant Wilson Pickett. Additional collaborations include King Britt and Silk 130. He performs regularly at clubs and festivals, among them the St. Croix Jazz Festival, while his ensemble has also opened for Brian McKnight and Freddy Jackson.
