Biography
Elvira Madigan functions as the solitary project of Marcus Hammarström from Stockholm, Sweden, encompassing performance, recording, visual design, and releases issued exclusively through his self-established Northlore label. Once the vocalist of Andalucia and the bassist of Ethonicide, Hammarström nurtured the concept across those earlier affiliations before it materialized in 2000 through the conceptual debut Black Arts, followed in 2001 by Witches -- Salem (1692 vs. 2001). The resulting style fused symphonic, progressive, and black metal in a manner that recalled Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth while proving even more wide-ranging. Four largely inactive years elapsed before Hammarström resumed activity with the covers collection Angelis Deamonae -- Wiccan Aftermath, which presented thorough reworkings of material originally by the Scorpions, Maurice Jarre, Chris de Burgh, and two themes drawn from the Final Fantasy video game series.
