Emerson, a glammed-up hard rock outfit, drew their name from brothers Stu on guitar and Bri Emerson, who launched the band alongside vocalist Sam Blewitt—surely some mistake—keyboardist Dru Irving, and drummer Jon Sellers in the northern English locale of Tyneside. Their connection to Neat Records, a notorious New Wave of British Heavy Metal imprint also headquartered there, evidently stemmed more from geography than from any shared musical sensibility, resulting in an improbable and ultimately fruitless association. The band’s meager discography amounted solely to a single 1983 release, the synth-laden “Something Special” backed with “Stars in Hollywood,” after which they promptly disappeared. Vocalist Blewitt would later surface in Samson.
