Pittsburgh-based singer/songwriter Emily Rodgers began issuing recordings in the mid-2000s, gradually establishing a singular style that merges folk and Americana textures with atmospheric, experimental rock influences that occasionally echo predecessors such as Mazzy Star and Cowboy Junkies. Her initial full-length effort, the 2005 release Emily Rodgers & Her Majesty's Stars, leaned toward ensemble folk arrangements, yet it was the subsequent album that drew wider notice. In 2008 she joined the Misra Records roster and tracked Bright Day, a dark and dreamy collection mixed and mastered by longtime New York producer Kramer, whose résumé includes Galaxie 500 and Bongwater. After the album surfaced in 2009, Rodgers launched an active touring phase that included a slot at SXSW and bills alongside Nina Nastasia, Jolie Holland, and Great Lake Swimmers. The year 2010 brought an additional credit when her composition “This Town” was featured in the independent feature Café. She later reunited with Kramer, now credited strictly as producer, for the haunting third album 2 Years, issued in summer 2016.
