Emily Wells fuses electronics with orchestral strings, jazz structures, pop sensibilities, and vocals heavy on vibrato, creating an eclectic sound. As a former child prodigy, she received record label offers while still in her teens. Rejecting the notion of handing creative control over to producers, she opted instead to tour independently across the country in support of her work. Following a move to Los Angeles, she constructed a home studio where she began crafting her first full-length release. That debut, Beautiful Sleepyhead and the Laughing Yaks, came out in 2006 and included fourteen songs that Wells wrote, performed, produced, and mixed entirely on her own. Her sophomore effort, The Symphonies: Dreams Memories & Parties, appeared in 2008 and enlisted bassist Joey Reina along with drummer Sam Halterman. Her ongoing achievements secured a contract with Partisan Records, which issued her third album, Mama, in 2012. In the years that followed, Wells maintained a consistent schedule of live performances while also securing notable placements for her music in television programming. She issued her subsequent record, Promise, at the start of 2016 through her own Thesis And Instinct imprint.
