New York's Emma Peel took their moniker from the Avengers heroine and operated as a trashy punk quintet whose pronounced twang invited comparisons to the Geraldine Fibbers. Kurt Wolf, the band's most prominent guitarist, had previously performed with noise-rock stalwarts Pussy Galore and Boss Hog, contributed to Foetus, and made a brief stint in Loudspeaker. Finnish-born guitarist Harri Kupiainen and bassist Lizzie Avondet had both played in Piss Factory, whose lone album appeared in 1993. Avondet split lead vocals with Rebecca Gaffney while the lineup was rounded out by drummer Alba. The group's sole release, 1995's Play Emma for Me on Sympathy for the Record Industry, incorporated several tracks captured during a live performance at CBGB's. They toured throughout 1996 and occasionally featured former Pain Teens vocalist Bliss Blood, though she never recorded with the band before its imminent dissolution.
