Emotionals

Origin: U.S.A
Listen on Coda
Originating in London, England toward the end of the 1980s, this appealing yet unoriginal pop ensemble drew clear inspiration from the Primitives and Darling Buds. The Emotionals assembled in Brixton during 1988, featuring Emma Vine on vocals, Pete Maher on guitar and vocals, Roz Laney on bass, and Kieron James on drums and percussion. Vine and Maher had first crossed paths at school, where their fascination with Richard Hell And The Voidoids outweighed any interest in lessons. Following their move to London, they initiated a nonstop promotional drive in the summer of 1988 that showed no signs of slowing. Early backing came from US disc jockey Rodney Bingenheimer and Nigel Harrison of Blondie, leading to a contract with Native Records and the release of their two rather average albums. When the label folded, the Emotionals soon disappeared along with it.
