Valerie Moorhead and Jennifer Yee, serving as guitarists, vocalists, and songwriters, launched a high-school project called the Vicious Sweet that eventually evolved into Enda. Several transient musicians cycled through the lineup before the group issued the album Obsessively Yours. Once drummer Dan Aquino and bassist Joey Clark signed on, the ensemble adopted the name Enda and began cultivating an audience throughout the Bay Area. Their first EP, Spacious, appeared in 1999. Two years later the band placed in the Top 50 of the Coca-Cola New Music Award contest, a competition aimed at unsigned acts, and in October of 2001 they devoted a week in L.A. to tracking their debut full-length album.
