Biography
Ensemble Pearl brings together Stephen O'Malley of Sunn 0)))), Atsuo from Boris, Michio Kurihara of Ghost, and William Herzog, known for his work with Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter and Citizen's Utilities. The quartet steers clear of the post-rock, 21st century psych, and doom metal idioms tied to each member's separate endeavors, instead gravitating toward a post-Hex Earth sensibility that remains far from absolute. Traces of the earliest Tangerine Dream albums, Harold Budd's textures, Locrian's droning post-metal, and Link Wray-style early instrumental rock intermingle to defy easy categorization. Drag City issued the band's self-titled debut album in March 2013, incorporating contributions from Eyvind Kang and Timba Harris.
