The Jambo Boys, originally a studio recording ensemble, resolved in 1962 to adopt a fresh identity and launch an autonomous career. Rechristened as the Equator Sound Band, the outfit emerged as one of Kenya’s leading acts across the 1960s. Its signature approach centered on paired vocal harmonies, a prominent walking bass, and foregrounded lead guitar. Multiple further renamings followed, with the group becoming the African Eagles and, subsequently, the Eagles Lupopo.
