Biography
Born on November 25, 1977, in Xalpaltlahuac, Guerrero, Mexico, ranchera singer Erasmo Catarino Gonzalez Delgado grew up with Nahuatl parents in a region where indigenous Mexican traditions and language remained deeply rooted. From childhood onward he embraced that heritage with particular intensity. After completing a degree in primary education in Puebla, Mexico, he returned home to instruct second graders at a local school serving Nahuatl children.
Encouraged by friends and family to showcase his long-standing vocal talent, Erasmo entered the Mexican television competition La Academia 4, a program offering contestants pathways into the recording industry. Although he performed capably across genres, his strongest affinity lay with classic Mexican forms such as ranchera and banda. Within the contest he distinguished himself through those stylistic preferences as well as his vocal prowess and stage presence.
Claiming the top prize, Erasmo issued the platinum-certified El Conde de Xalpatlahuac. The exposure led to further televised competition when he joined Desafio de Estrellas and finished in second place. His follow-up album, Toda Banda, appeared in 2006. An enduring allegiance to traditional Mexican music and a profound connection to his origins have secured him a devoted audience.
