Biography
Born on October 8, 1958, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, lifelong musician and solo pianist Eric McCarl first picked up the violin at age seven before going on to command piano, guitar, and trumpet in the years that followed. After pursuing computer science at Penn State throughout the late 1970s, he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1981 and relocated to California, where he took a position as a field sales engineer with Texas Instruments. Even while advancing in that role, McCarl held fast to his musical ambitions, ultimately stepping away from the stability of his California career to enroll at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. Upon completing his studies he returned to California and devoted himself to performance in multiple capacities. To underwrite these efforts he rejoined the technology sector in the late 1990s as a systems engineer at Cisco Systems; the prosperous climate of that period allowed him to invest prudently, and he later exited with sufficient resources to sustain his wife and children while building Eric’s Olive Tree Studio. Within that facility he captured Seeking the Light Within, the inaugural installment of an intended trilogy showcasing his spiritually inflected solo piano work.
