Biography
Erika Sawajiri entered the world in Tokyo during April 1986. Long before she ventured into music, she built her initial reputation through early work as a model and performer in film and television. Her time in front of the camera began in 1999 when she joined the roster of Angel Eyes, after which she settled into steady appearances across variety programs and scripted series. The track she issued as Kaoru Amane—drawn from the role she portrayed in the motion picture Taiyou No Uta—reached the top position on the charts and led to a recording agreement with Sony. Issued in July 2007 under her own name, the follow-up single “Free” likewise claimed the number-one spot. Although only a limited number of releases marked her time in music, the combined demands of her screen roles, print work, and additional projects prompted her and her representatives to step away from new activity in 2008.
