Biography
Dream pop outfit Eros and the Eschaton originated with Kate Perdoni and Adam Hawkins, a couple whose shared life already included parenthood when the project began. The pair first crossed paths in 2010 while each was traveling separately with other groups; their connection formed rapidly, and the arrival of their son in 2011 preceded any joint recordings. After an extended cross-country drive, the three settled in Greensboro, North Carolina, choosing rural surroundings in which to raise the child and shape material that would later define the band. Throughout 2012 the duo refined a sound drawing on the classic template of Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine yet colored by fresh approaches to mixing and capture. A handful of self-released singles appeared that year alongside scattered live dates, preparing the ground for the debut album Home Address for Civil War, issued by Bar/None Records in August 2013. Once the extensive touring cycle concluded, Perdoni and Hawkins relocated to Colorado and enlarged the lineup to five members by recruiting drummer Alex Koshak, keyboardist Mitch Macura, and bassist Ryan Spradlin. Festival appearances followed across the country, and Westword, Denver’s alternative weekly, named the group Best Pop Band of 2015. Their sophomore release, Weight of the Matter, arrived in August 2016.
