Escapade, the acclaimed space rock ensemble, came into being in 1996 when drummer Hadley Kahn assembled the project. The musicians can deliver unadulterated space rock yet favor a cohesive, spontaneous approach to the form. Although shaped by Krautrock and the psychedelic groups of the 1960s and 1970s, the band has issued recordings that steer clear of straightforward replication of earlier eras. Personnel has shifted across time, but the 2001 roster included Paul Hilzinger on keyboards, Paul Casanova on guitar, John Ortega on keyboards and sound processing, Russell Giffen on bass, and Rob Giffen on guitars and loops. The 2000 album Due to a Faulty Premonition continues to be regarded as the group’s strongest work. Also from 2000, Remembrance of Things Unknown gathers demos and previously unreleased material. Recorded with makeshift equipment during assorted performances and rehearsals, the 1997 release Obscured Dialogues appeared as a CD-R.
